TULALIP — On Saturday, March 31, the Tulalip Tribal membership voted for two elected three-year-term positions on the Tulalip Tribes’ governing body, its seven-member Board of Directors. Following polling at the Tulalip Resort that day, Tribal membership elected Deborah Parker to her first term and re-elected Marlin Fryberg Jr.
Officers of the Board were also elected following the polling and during the annual General Council meeting at that time. During voting from the floor of the General Council, Tribal members re-elected Mel Sheldon Jr. as Chair, Deborah Parker was elected Vice-Chair, Glen Gobin was elected Secretary and Chuck James remained as Treasurer. Elected Board members and officers will be sworn in and take office at the Board meetings on Friday, April 6, and Saturday, April 7.
“Our Tribal membership spoke with their votes on Saturday, telling us we are moving in the right direction overall,” Sheldon said. “I speak for all of us when I say that we are extremely grateful and humbled by the support of our people.”
The results, with 1,013 ballots cast and two seats up for election:
Deborah Parker = 527.
Marlin Fryberg Jr. = 393.
Marie Zackuse = 332.
Shelly Lacy = 263.
Danny Simpson = 125.
Andrew James = 97.
Hilario “Angel” Cortez = 85.
Helene Contraro = 35.
Ronni Kona = 13.
