MARYSVILLE — The two persons of interest the June 8 homicide of a 73-year-old Marysville woman, in the 7100 block of 70th Avenue, were taken into custody the evening of June 9 in Missouri.

Snohomish County residents Joshua Gilliam, 25, and Ryan L. Miller, 22, were previously identified by local law enforcement from a Snohomish County store’s video surveillance, after police learned that credit cards belonging to the victim were used in the county during the weekend before June 8.

When the investigation began, Gilliam was a suspect in the fraudulent use of the victim’s credit cards and a person of strong interest in the homicide, while Miller was a person of interest. Marysville Police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux has since named both men as suspects in the murder, and noted that murder warrants are being actively pursued against them.

According to Lamoureux, detectives suspected the men were traveling in a red Buick on the highway from Iowa to Missouri, and notified Missouri police. The suspects were arrested at a rest stop shortly before 9 p.m. on June 9. Marysville Police detectives expect to travel to Missouri June 10.

The victim, who was found dead in her home, had filed for a protection order in September of last year against Gilliam, her granddaughter’s ex-boyfriend. According to the request for the protection order, the victim told a Snohomish County judge that she was afraid of Gilliam. The protection order was dismissed in the fall, after no one in the case showed up for a hearing. According to court documents, Gilliam is a convicted sex offender who once lived with the victim and her adult granddaughter.

The Marysville Globe will provide further information as it becomes available.
