Dale Duvall was born in Everett, Wash. in 1924 to parents Henry and Anna Krub Duvall of Marysville, Wash.

He played football at the University of Washington before joining the Navy in 1943.

He trained as a Navy pilot, and flew Corsairs, SBD, TBM and S2F aircraft.

In 1948, he married June Robertson, also from Marysville. Dale graduated from the U of W, with a degree in Economics and Business which served him well in owning and operating two businesses.

In 1949 Dale and June moved to Portland where they raised their three children Dirk, Dean and Dian.

He continued his military career in the Naval Reserve, flying out of Sand Point Naval Air Station on Lake Washington, Seattle.

Dale retired from the Navy Reserve in 1969 as a Captain and squadron commander of VS-892, and continued his love of aviation by building and flying an experimental aircraft.

The Longeze was donated to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in 1992, and continues to hang on display.

Dale was an active member of the Association of Naval Aviation, Reserve Officers Association, Military Officers Association of America and various civic organizations.

Dale retired after 29 years as a stock broker. In 1993 Dale and June moved to Black Butte Ranch where he continued to enjoy the outdoors, and served on the Black Butte Police Board from 1998 to 2004. He was a hunter and a fly fisherman and particularly enjoyed Central Oregon for all it has to offer in those areas.

Dale once said that his idea of heaven would be to fish every day on the Whitehorse Rapids of the Deschutes River, for eternity.

His sense of adventure and passion for history was realized throughout his life with extensive travel … from taking their children to Spanish forts and Civil War battlefields to international travel with June exploring Roman ruins, climbing the Great Wall. On Sept. 17, 2008 Dale and June celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

Dale passed away in his home on Dec. 11, 2008. He is survived by wife June, his three children, three granddaughters Joanna, Jennifer and Jillian, six great-grandchildren, his sister Doris Sullivan and many family members.

A celebration of life will be held in January at Black Butte Ranch Lodge. There will be military services at Willamette National Cemetery in April.
