Fern Root passed at age 90 on March 28 2011 at Providence Medical Center in Everett WA from complications following surgery. She was with family.
Fern was born in Sylva N.C. on January 16 1921. She was the oldest of 6 siblings. She lived most of her life in Marysville, WA. She owned her own successful business as a beautician for over 45 years. She was married to Gordon Root at age 18 and they raised 3 children.
Fern lived a life filled with faith, courage, strength, independence and a steadfast devotion to helping all whom needed it most.
Fern had an amazing faith. She converted to Catholicism at age 18 when she married Gordon. She was artistic, an avid gardener, loved watching The Mariners, and had a gentle sweet manner with all animals (especially dogs), but her truest joy was from family, especially her only grandson Eric.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Edward Clayton; stepfather Richard Tompkins; husband Gordon Root; son Daniel Root; brothers Robert and Ray Clayton; and sister Faye Crumb.
She is survived by son Daryl Root, daughter Kathleen Krausz, son-in-law Pete Krausz, grandson Eric Krausz, Mary Ludwig, Brook Baker and four great grandsons, Jonah, Elan, Shade and Miles. Sisters Grace Crisp, Florence Morgan and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
We were all blessed to have Fern touch our lives. God knows the beauty of her soul, and so do all those who were fortunate to have known her.
