George Frederick Rutter was born in Seattle, Wash., on March 16, 1920. Alki Point was his home for much of his life. In 1982, George moved to Edmonds, Wash., and later to Lake Stevens, Wash., where he has lived for the past 16 years. He also kept a beach home in Mason County.
George attended the University of Washington, M.I.T. and McGill University earning a Doctorate in Nuclear Physics. During WWII, George served as a Navy Captain in the Pacific. He later established Systems Supply Company in Seattle, performing marine and electrical engineering consulting. He was named Man of the Year for the Seattle Port Engineers Society in 1979.
George was first married to Margaret, who is also deceased.
He now leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Gayle, of Lake Stevens; his son, Dale Rutter (Sandra); son, John Rutter (Columba); grandson, Brody Rutter; and granddaughter, Darcy Sera (Bryan), all of Seattle. He also leaves his step-children; Brooke Robinson (David) of Wenatchee, Wash., Heather Robinson (Hal) of Granite Falls, Wash., Brad Robinson (Else), and their children, Erik and Emily, of Lynnwood, Wash.
George was very dedicated to the work of Lions Clubs in Seattle and internationally. He was a Charter member of Chapel on the Hill Lutheran Church in Granite Falls and a memorial service will be held there at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 17, 2007.
