Jerry Hendry born to Margaret (Dubbert) and Howard Hendry on Nov. 15, 1935 in Hazen North Dakota, passed away Nov. 14, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer with his family at his side.
In 1939 he came to Washington attending schools in Everett and Arlington. After serving in the Army during the Korean War he met and married Shirley (Hunsberger) in Everett in 1960. After living in Everett with their five children they moved to a farm north of Arlington in 1967. There they raised pigs, cattle and horses. and for a number of years they grew Strawberries and raspberries. Jerry had a large vegetable garden and spent many hours out there. Shirley had a love of dahlias and he raised hundreds of varieties for her. When he had time to relax he would read his Louise Lamour books and spend time at the Stanwood library. He and Shirley were very active in a pinochle group as well as many hours on the dance floor with all there special friends. Jerry liked to fish and took many trips to Loon Lake in Canada. He retired from J.H. Baxter Pole Company in Arlington, Wash.
Preceding him in death was his wife Shirley in 2006 and three brothers; Howard, Wes and Lewis.
He is survived by his three sisters, Carol, Margie and Lila, and his two brothers, Fred and Bill. He is also survived by his five children, Bill and (Cheri) of Everett, Bob of Marysville, Mark and (Jeanette) of Arlington, Brian and (Donne) who reside on the family farm in Arlington, Donna and (Todd) of Everett, Fourteen grand-children and two great grand-children. He will be missed.
Jerry will be laid to rest next to his wife Shirley at the Freeborn Church Cemetery in Stanwood. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at Freeborn Lutheran Church. Following this the family requests all friends and family come share good memories with them on the Hendry Farm in Arlington.
A time of viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home 27001 88th Ave NW in Stanwood, Wash.
