Leslie Alexander Evan Venables, D.D.S., born February 25, 1920 in Winnipeg, Canada died at his Silvana home on March 15, 2009.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, he provided adult dental services in Everett and Marysville, served on the staffs of Everett General and Everett Providence Hospitals, was a part-time instructor at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, and for several years was a consultant to Children’s Orthopedic Hospital.
In his youth, for many summers, he was a counselor at YMCA Camp Widgiwagan, leading extended canoe trips into wilderness areas of northern Minnesota.
As a Washingtonian, he volunteered as a Boy Scout leader; developed a north county youth band; was a 4-H leader; served as president of Association for Retarded Citizens several terms; and headed the development of Quilceda House, Marysville, residence for persons with developmental disabilities. He was a founder of Cascade Curling Club, and a long term member of Everett Elks Club, Masonic and Scottish Rite Lodges. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Mabel Venables, and brother James.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hazel; daughter Leslie, Marysville; Karen (Bob) Harper, Stanwood; Vicki (Laurin) Blacken, Hubbard Oregon; and Jodi Coy, Gig Harbor, and grandchildren Lars (Jun), Kylie (Grant), Hans Erik, Nels Olin, Garrison, and Gillian.
A first great-grandchild will arrive in June.
