Lloyd Elmer Smiley, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was taken home by the hand of God on Dec. 23, 2006, at 6:55 p.m. after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lloyd was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Seattle, to Relnah and Sylvester Smiley. They lived in the Ballard area. Lloyd attended West Woodland, Monroe and Ballard High, graduating in 1947.
Drafted in 1951, he married Beverly Mckechnie, June 16, 1951 at Fort Lee Virginia. Returning from Germany in 1953 he went to work for the Boeing Co. They moved to Bellevue in 1954. After attending night school, Lloyd graduated from Seattle University with a B.A. in Business.
While living in Bellevue, Lloyd and Beverly (his wife of 55 years) also enjoyed the cabin at Hermosa Beach with many friends in both places. He retired in 1990 and loved to travel especially to see his grandchildren Nicole and Brian and great-grandchildren Abigail and Michael, in North Carolina. He enjoyed gardening, snorkeling, fishing and camping.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents Relnah and Sylvester Smiley; and brothers Eugene and Merreyle Smiley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; his children MeLinda (Dave) Johanson and Joel (Tracy) Smiley; his grandchildren Nicole Hickes (Chad) and Brian Johanson; and his great-grandchildren, Abigail and Michael Hicks; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Viewing was held from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Everett, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Everett.
