Jack V. Long was born Oct. 22, 1914 and died Nov. 24, 2006.
Barbara M. Long was born April 19, 1914 and died Jan. 14, 2005.
Jack and Barbara were married April 24, 1934 and began their lives together in Darrington, Wash., where Jack worked in the logging industry and for the school district. He then worked for Skagit River Motorlines, which later became Oak Harbor Freights.
In 1947, the family, which included their son and two daughters, moved to Marysville, Wash., where they purchased five acres on 80th Street and operated a poultry farm. Jack continued to work for the freight line and Barbara was busy with the farm and raising the children. At one time she also worked for the Sears store in Everett, Wash.
They eventually subdivided the property creating home lots on 81st Place.
In 1956, they sold their home and bought a home in the Forest Park area of Everett. Jack continued to work for Oak Harbor Freights and Barbara was employed at Scott Paper Co. (now Kimberly-Clark). They worked hard at adding-on and remodeling their home which had a beautiful view of the Cascades.
They were active all their lives in the Baptist church. Jack served as deacon and taught Sunday School. Upon retirement they sold their Everett home and began their dream of RV travel. They visited many states and were able to attend family reunions in Georgia and visit and attend events involving their grandchildren. They purchased a home in Rock Shadows RV Park in Apache Junction, Ariz. and later in Monte Vista RV Park in Mesa, Ariz., where they had many good friends and Jack kept busy teaching yoga and working in the yard. They both enjoyed the many activities offered in the park. They were active members of a square dancing group that traveled to various cities. Upon giving up traveling in their RV they continued to travel by air, flying to the east coast and Hawaii to visit family.
They are survived by their daughters, Shirley (Jerry) Berweger, Vicki (Alan) Waitz; son, Richard (Sheila) Long, all of Arizona; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition Jack is survived by his sister, Frances McQuesten, of Arlington, Wash.; and sister-in-law, Nellie Long, of Darrington. Barbara is survived by her sister, Shirley Gonska, of Twisp, Wash.; and brother, Gary Christensen, of Everett.
Jack and Barbara lived lives of joy, dignity, and dedication to their Lord and family. We mourn their loss but continue to hold the memories close; secure in the knowledge that their love of us and ours for them is eternal. John 3:16.
A memorial service to celebrate the lives of Jack and Barbara will be held at 11 a.m., July 14, 2007, at the First Baptist Church, Darrington, Wash. Private family internment of remains will be at 10 a.m., at the Darrington Cemetery.
