Marjorie Ellis was born May 23, 1932 in Mineral, Wash., to Eric and Laketta Sutherland. She passed away on Sept. 23, 2009.
She was raised in Seattle and attended Seattle High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Tommie Lee Morgan (1951) and J. Douglas Prater (1978), son, Thane Prater, daughter, Amy Griffin, grandsons David Griffin and Trever Prater.
She is survived by her husband, Wallace Ellis, sons, Gregory Prater, Nyan (Debbie) Prater, Darren (Julie) Prater, Kinnon (Zen) Prater and Quinn (Kristina) Prater. Daughters Marci Mattes and Erica (Mike) Lawrer, “adopted” kids Kathie (Glen) Bunkelman and Teri and Lisa De Verse. Also 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandsons.
In the 1960s, Marjorie was the first woman parcel post driver for the Seattle Post Office. She drove for the University District route No. 2917.
She worked for the Arlington School District for 10 years. After an injury, she opened The Wishing Place, a childrens book and toy store. She was interested in the miniatures she carried in the store and decided to get more involved. She bought the Bothell and Bellingham dollhouse miniature shows which she promoted for a number of years.
Marjorie was an avid gardener.
Memorial service and reception will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Arlington Free Methodist Church, 730 E. Highland Drive, Arlington, WA 98223. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Everett Gospel Mission, 3711 Smith Ave., Everett, WA.
