Martin Invard Nerland, 81, of Malaga, WA passed away January 19th, 2018 at Central Washington Hospital peacefully with his family by his side after a hard-fought battle with esophageal cancer.
Marty “The Whip” left a legacy of many accomplishments from growing up on the family farm in Arlington, fishing the seas of Alaska, operating a hardware store in Arlington, WA then moving his entire family to Hawaii for several years before settling in the small town of Wenatchee. He retired from Hale and Long General Contractors after a long and respected career in commercial construction. Marty was preceded in death by his parents Invard and Olga Nerland; his brother, Jack Nerland, his infant daughter Victoria Nerland, and his grandson Michael Grennes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Linda; along with four children Martin & Christine Nerland of Stanwood, WA; Marc Nerland of East Wenatchee, WA; Patricia & Jeffery Graham of Malaga, WA; Rebecca & Steve Davenport of Wenatchee, WA; two siblings Syd Nerland and Ruth Barker; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
We wish to thank the staff at Central Washington Hospital that provided such wonderful care to him in his final days. Special thanks to the Central Washington Home Health and Hospice staff for their supportive and compassionate care. A celebration of life gathering will be held in honor of Marty at a future date to be announced.
