EDMONDS – Two locals won wrestling titles at the 3A Region 2 Tournament at Edmonds-Woodway Saturday.
Seventeen local wrestlers in all advanced to the state meet Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
Cole Daurie of Marysville-Pilchuck won a major decision over Baylor Denkinger of E-W 13-2 to take the title at 106 pounds.
The other local champion was Trey Padgett of Marysville Getchell at 138 pounds. In the final, against Isaiah Galindo of M-P, he edged the Tomahawk 3-2.
Two other Tomahawks also lost in the finals. At 170 pounds, Cayden White was pinned in 2 minutes, 20 seconds by Jacob Olson of Kamiakin. And at 285 pounds, Yuriy Slutskiy of Southridge won a major decision over M-P’s Joe Lawrence 11-3.
Will Rush of Arlington also was a runner-up. He lost by technical fall 15-0, time was 4:51 into the match, to Austin Almaguer of Kamiakin at 132 pounds.
Both competitors in the matches for third- and fourth-place also move on to state.
The only local who placed third was Sam Rush of Arlington at 152 pounds. He beat Devin Fahlman of M-P 18-3 for a technical fall in 3:55.
The other local wrestlers placed fourth.
At 120 pounds, Austin Davis of M-P lost to Daniel Ramirez of Everett 8-3.
And at 285 pounds, MP’s Jeff Roullier lost to Brock McCue of Kamiakin 4-2.
Kamiakin won the team competition with 305 points. M-P was third with 208, Arlington sixth with 99.5 and MG 11th with 44.
In Class 2A, three wrestlers from Lakewood High School are advancing to state.
Sophomore John Seth led the way placing second at 113 pounds.
Senior Kevin Stokes was third at 152 pounds.
And senior Camden Bach was fourth at 160 pounds.
Junior Gavin Wright placed fifth at 170 pounds and is an alternate to state.
In girls wrestling, four locals are going to state, including one regional champion.
Cassidy O’Hara of Lakewood won her weight class at 115 pounds. Arlington’s Tailer Cochran placed fourth to advance in the same weight class.
At 140 pounds, Lakewood’s Olivia Poulton placed second. And at 105 pounds, Arlington’s Vivian Potong was third. Stanwood won the team competition with 120. Lakewood was seventh with 61 and Arlington 12th with 43.
