MARYSVILLE — The Angels finished their season with a difficult loss to the Red Sox in Marysville Little League minors action June 2.

In a sea-saw of a game, the Angels had the lead a couple of times, but ultimately lost 8-7 in the sixth inning.

“It was a good game, it’s just too bad we couldn’t win that one,” said Angels coach Cesar Motta.

The Angels, who are sponsored by Rex’s Rentals, took an early lead with two runs in the first inning, but relinquished the lead just two innings later.

Some of the highlights included the strong fielding of Jayden Motta at third base and the consistent hitting of 11-year-old Eason Alday. They both earned the game ball for their efforts. The loss finished the Angels’ season at 4-9-1.

“Getting involved with the Marysville Little League is just an amazing experience,” said Motta, who is in his first year of coaching minors. “It’s just a great organization with a lot of people putting in a tremendous amount of man hours.”

But 2010 isn’t over for any Marysville little leaguer, as all teams enter the double-elimination post season tournament.

Nevertheless, Motta offered some of the highlights of the regular season.

“It’s difficult for me to single out a few players because we have so many that do great things, but I’d say Eason Alday has regularly hit the ball and has outstanding potential,” he said. “Also Chase Zachry (age 9) routinely plays at the level of a 10 or 11-year-old at second base.”

Motta also pointed out pitcher Kai Varner, age 9, as showing potential and displaying a skill level higher than his age.

The Red Sox finished the season 11-3-1 and took the No. 1 seed from the Minors North division, which has six teams. The south division holds eight teams.

Motta also thanked his assistant coaches for helping him coach, as he spends a great deal of time traveling. His assistants include Wayne Zachry, Shawn Hayes, Joe Page and Bob Penny.
