Arlington and Marysville-Pilchuck will play for the 3A District 1 Championship tonight at 8 at Everett Community College.
Arlington’s girls will play Snohomish at 6 p.m. for their championship.
Marysville Getchell’s boys are still in the state playoff hunt but they will have to win this afternoon at 4 against Shorecrest and again Monday to advance to state Feb. 22.
The MG girls were eliminated from the playoff with their loss 55-43 to Meadowdale Friday.
The Lakewood boys also were eliminated with their 70-58 loss Friday to Mountlake Terrace in the 2A District 1 Tournament.
M—P’s boys qualified for the title game with an easly 80-50 win over Stanwood Friday.
RaeQuan Battle scored a game-high 27 points, Cameron Stordahl chipped in 15 and Luke Dobler had 11 in the rout. Other scorers: Aaron Kalab 9, T.J. Severn 7, Treven Southard 6, Parker Devereux and Ethan Jackson 2 each, and Brady Phelps 1.
Arlington’s boys advanced to the final with a 65-52 win over MG.
The Chargers played it close every quarter, but the Eagles clinched the win outscoring the visitors 16-9 in the final period.
For the winners, Griffin Gardoski led the way with 28 points, with Josh Gutierrez added 26, while standout guard Anthony Whitis was held to 1.
Other scoring, Will Abram had 5, Ethan Martin 3 and Ayodele Aribibola 2.
For the Chargers, Malakhi Knight and Josiah Koellmer led the way with 20 and 19 points. Other scoring: Mejinta Adams-Taylor 4, Dylan Rice 3 and with 2 apiece Caleb Koellmer, Lul William and Chase Showalter.
The Arlington girls improved to 17-4 with a 55-38 win over Edmonds-Woodway.
Trailing 14-6 after one quarter and 26-20 at halftime, Arlington’s defense tightened in the second half, outscoring the visitors 22-3 in the third quarter alone.
Hailey Hiatt led the way with 18 followed by Sierra Scheppele with 16. Other scoring: Josie Stupey and Keira Marsh with 6 each; Abbey Hassing 5, Ella Strittmatter 2 and with one each Jackie Stupey and Mollie Janousek.
In MG’s loss to Meadowdale, the Chargers played them close every quarter but the third, when they were outscored 18-4.
Mikail Montez scored a game-high 18 points and Maddy Grandbois added 13 for the Chargers, which ended the year with a 15-6 record.
Other MG scoring: Kortney Crane and Sydney Norton with 3 each; and with 2 apiece Madison Hagglund, Alexus Atkins and Kiki Green 2.
Thursday’s games
Arlington’s defense controlled the game in the boys’ 54-42 win over Squalicum Thursday.
Gutierrez had 18 points and Whitis scored 16 for the Eagles (15-5). Aribibola played his first game of the season after recovering from a broken kneecap and scored two points.
Other scoring: Abram 8, Gardoski 6 and with 2 each Caden Smith and Michael Tsoukalas.
In the Eagle girls game, top-seeded Arlington (16-4) tied a school-record with 16 3-pointers on its way to a 62-49 win over No. 8 Meadowdale (13-8).
Scheppele scored 19 points, hitting 5 of 9 3-point attempts, and Hiatt added 16 points. Other scoring: Allison DeBerry 9, Marsh and Hassing 6 each, Makenzie Gage 4 and Josie Stupey 2.
Montez scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the MG girls fell to E-W 52-39.
The Chargers didn’t get going until the third quarter, falling behind 17-4 after one and 27-10 at halftime. Their 21 points in the third period was more than they scored the other three quarters combined.
Other Charger scoring: Green 5, Norton and Grandbois 4 each, and Crane 3.
Boys swimming
At the state meet in Federal Way, in fourth place in diving was M-P’s Andrew Kallio with 250.5 points; in 15th was teammate Leif Anderson with 204.35, and in 18th was fellow Tomahawk Daniel Kirkwood with 179.75.
