GIRLS SOCCER

Arlington, Marysville-Pilchuck and Marysville Getchell all won their Wesco 3A North girls soccer games.

The Eagles blasted Shorewood 5-1, the Chargers eked out a 2-1 win and the Tommies blanked Meadowdale 2-0.

Arlington

Jersey Heiss scored a hat trick with 3 goals to lead the Eagles to victory. Carly Bartlow added a goal and an assist. Hailey Hiatt and Jordan Bartlow also had assists. Lexi Miller-Wood had 10 saves at goalie. Last Thursday, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead at halftime, but Archbishop Murphy tallied for three goals in the second half to win 3-2.

Marysville

Jadin Thompson-Sheldon scored a goal, Kirsten Crane had a goal and an assist and Alana Gomez added an assist in the Charger win. Also, MG beat Oak Harbor 3-1 Saturday, after beating Lynnwood 3-0 last Thursday.

Along with beating Meadowdale, M-P beat Mountlake Terrace 1-0 last Thursday.

Lakewood

The Cougars tied Sedro-Woolley Monday 2-2. They tied Squalicum in a home match 1-1 last week. Kahlan Buckley scored the only goal with an assist from Jasmine Graham. Carla Sastre had seven saves at goalie.

VOLLEYBALL

Arlington

The Eagles improved to 6-0 Tuesday beat Shorewood 25-14, 25-19, 17-25 and 25-18. Ariana Bilby had 14 kills, 4 service aces, 9 digs and 1 block. Emily Mekelburg had 9 kills, 2 aces and a block. Julia Parra added 6 kills. Taylor Pederson had 18 assists and an ace and Brookelynn Ramey added 15 assists. Taylor Helle led the defense with 10 digs. Last Thursday, the Eagles blanked Archbishop Murphy 25-20, 25-14 and 25-24. Bilby had 13 kills, 8 digs, 2 blocks and an ace. Pederson has 12 assists and Ramey 10. They both also had a service ace. Paige Richards had 12 digs. Teagan Sutherland had 4 kills and 2 blocks and Sophia Cushman 3 kills and 2 blocks.

Marysville

M-P won a thriller over Meadowdale Monday 3-2. The Tommies lost the first game badly 10-25, but gutted out an impressive 26-24 victory in the second set. They split the next to game, winning 25-18 then falling 20-25. In the deciding fifth set, they won 15-8. Caylee Carter led the way with 14 kills and 3 blocks. Ayana Sabbas had an impressive all-around game with 9 kills, 18 assists and 4 service aces. Taylor Bichel added 3 kills, 15 assists and 2 aces. Jenna Olson led the defense with 32 digs. Last week, M-P beat Mountlake Terrace 3-2.

MG lost a tough one to Edmonds-Woodway Monday 16-25, 25-20, 17-25 and 24-26. Kerragyn Heacock had 6 kills, 5 aces and 10 digs, Whitney Harwood 6 kills and 8 digs, Peyton Schmidt 3 aces and 16 digs and Courtney Taylor 5 kills.

MG lost another heartbreaker last week, this one to Lynnwood in five sets: 25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 25-21 and 15-9. Kate Roberts had 10 kills, 8 digs and 4 blocks. Harwood had 9 kills and 25 digs. Alexus Atkins contributed 8 kills and a block. Kelsey Kolling added 7 kills and 4 digs. Hannah Holscher had 23 assists and 16 digs and Schmidt 27 digs and 3 aces.

Lakewood

The Cougars lost to Sedro-Woolley Tuesday 3-0 and by the same score to Squalicum last week.

SWIMMING

In at meet at Forest Park pool in Everett Tuesday, Marysville’s combined MG and M-P swim team only came up with one victory. Cassidy O’Neal of M-P won the 200 individual medley in 2 minutes, 58.67 seconds.

BOYS TENNIS 

Marysville

M-P blanked MG Monday 7-0 in a Wesco 3A North match. In singles, Parker Devereux defeated Liam Perkins 6-1, 6-1; Carson Asper won an exciting match over Mason Devereux 4-6, 6-4, 10-6; Trae Tingelstad beat Rylee Worth 6-2, 6-2; and Davis Magee defeated Kiel Selapack 6-2, 6-3. In doubles, Aaron Kalab-Treven Southard easily beat Luke Olason-Mikah Marshall 6-1, 6-2; Dawson Coe-Jake Sulya beat Ryder Hurley-Keegan Brennan 6-0, 6-3; and Alex Nyblod-Jaxon Petermeyer got by Kane Selapack-Jaden Lash 7-5, 6-1.

M-P beat Everett Friday 6-1. Devereux won 6-1, 6-2. Asper and Tingelstad both came from behind to win: 3-6, 6-0, 10-8 and 1-6, 6-4, 10-7. Magee made it a sweep in singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. In doubles, Kalab-Southard won 6-0, 6-3; and Coe-Sulya won 6-1, 6-4. The Tommies also beat Oak Harbor 4-3 last Thursday.

Meanwhile, MG lost to Snohomish 7-0 last Thursday.

Arlington

In his first varsity match freshman Ty Rusko easily won his No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-0, but the team didn’t do as well losing to Snohomish Monday 5-2. The only other Eagles win was at No. 3 doubles as Cameron Janousek-Jacob Bolopue won 6-1, 7-5. “It was a super-tight match that could’ve gone either way. Snohomish got us in the third set at both first and second doubles,” Eagle coach Ben Mendro said.

Lakewood

The Cougars fell to Sedro-Woolley 6-1 Monday and to Lynden 6-1 last week.

CROSS COUNTRY 

Marysville

For MG, Jasmine Nguyen was the top local finisher in the girls varsity Division 1 race at the Nike Portland Invite placing ninth in 19 minutes, 12.2 seconds Saturday.

M-P’s girls were fourth in the five-team King’s Cross Invitational Saturday. Alexia Sandoval was ninth in 21 minutes, 48.43 seconds. Julia Davis was 19th, freshman Rachel Turral 20th, Xochitl Hernandez 26th and Corianne Cross 37th.

Arlington

The Eagles won both the boys and girls team competition in a meet at Kamiak Thursday. Arlington scored 26 in the boys race, with MG last with 96. The Eagles tallied 29 in the girls race, with MG second with 56. Anna Louise Fernandez won the girls race in 17 minutes, 30 seconds.

 FOOTBALL

Lakewood

The Cougars were unbeaten in non-league play last year, but could not win a league game.

That changed Friday as Lakewood won its Northwest 2A Sky Division opener against Sedro-Wooley 27-0.

Like last year, the Cougar offense has been huge this season, led by quarterback Jared Taylor, who can run and pass with the best of them.

But against S-W, it was the defense that was impressive.

The ninth-ranked Cubs entered Friday averaging 41.6 points in three non-conference wins, but they recorded just 104 yards in total offense and their star wide receiver, Eastern Washington commit Brent Vanderveen, caught just two passes for 21 yards.

The play of the game came with Lakewood leading just 10-0. Taylor connected with Jackson Schultz on a swing pass, who subsequently launched a 24-yard TD pass to Carson Chrisman to put the Cougars up by three scores with 2:40 remaining in the third quarter.

Taylor finished 7-for-16 passing for 76 yards and went for 110 yards on 19 carries on the ground. He tossed a 20-yard TD pass to Hayden Richardson in the final period.

Malik Dotson racked up 94 yards on 9 carries.

Landon Pruitt finished with 52 yards on 9 carries, including a 30-yard scamper on Lakewood’s first drive of the game.

Alan Sepulveda made 2-of-3 field-goal attempts, including a 44-yarder late in the fourth quarter

The Cougars held S-W to no first downs in the first half and just four for the game.

Arlington

At Ferndale, the home team outscored the Eagles 34-14 in the middle two quarters to win 48-28 in a Wesco 3A North game Friday.

Jaden Roskelley scored on a 15-yard run in the first and Cade Younger scored on a 61-yard pass to trail 21-14 at the half. Trent Nobach passed 11 yards to Levi Younger and 5 yards to Joseph Schmidt in the second half, but the Eagle defense could not stop the Golden Eagles offense.

Marysville

At Lake Washington, sophomore Dylan Carson and Jordan Justice combined for 235 yards rushing and three TDs in the Tomahawks’ 33-14 non-league win. Carson ran for 131 yards and a TD, and Justice added 104 yards and two scores.

Meanwhile, MG lost a home game to Squalicum 56-14 Friday. Garrett Devereux scored on a 34-yard pass play from Josiah Koellmer and Aiden Verdugo ran the ball 3 times for 34 yards and a score. Cheron Smith added 71 yards on 16 carries. Landyn Olson caught 4 passes and Kellen McGarry 3. Koellmer was 8-for-20 for 109 yards and 2 picks.
