Lakewood’s girls softball team beat the reigning state basketball champion Lynden Christian Lyncs.

Not in basketball, but in softball 6-5 at home Tuesday.

Leadoff hitter Jelly Perry got the Cougars off to a fast start with a single. She scored followed by two others after an error, fielder’s choice, a walk, a single, a wild pitch and a two RBI single by Ashtyn Falor.

After a scoreless second inning, Lynden scored in the third on a double, followed by an error.

The visitors made cut the lead to 3-2 in the fourth after a double, a passed ball and two errors.

The Cougars tacked on two more in the fourth when Riley Molloy beat out an infield single. After a bunt single by Abby Freeman, Milloy came in to score on a fielder’s choice by Perry. Another single by pitcher Riley Mae Swanson knocked in another run to make it 5-2, and the home team held on from there.

Soccer

M-P continues to dominate in the Wesco 3A North with a 2-1 win over Shorecrest. The Tomahawks improved their record to 11-1 with Randy Galvan and Leonardo Jaramillo scoring goals.

In other games, Stanwood beat MG 4-2 and Lynden blanked Lakewood 6-0.

Softball

At times, M-P looks unstoppable.

The Tommies clobbered Mountlake Terrace in five innings Tuesday 13-0 improving its record to 10-1.

M-P scored four in the first and nine in the fifth to win the game going away.

Pitcher Lilianne Fisher and Katie Barrett both went 3-4 at the plate. Fisher had a double and two runs batted in, while Barrett scored three times and had an RBI. Catcher Sydney Zachry knocked in three runs while collecting two hits. And leadoff hitter Chloe Morgan scored twice, went 2-3 and knocked in a run.

Tennis

Arlington’s girls tennis team cruised by Marysville-Pilchuck 5-2 Monday at Totem Middle School.

The Eagles won all of the singles matches.

Achley Kolbeck beat Hailey Dixon 6-3, 6-1 and Margarita Muro edged Mariah Prater 6-3, 6-7 (6-8) and 10-4 in the final tiebreaker.

Faith Holden got by Paige Bramer 6-4, 6-2 and Ellie Kilevchi topped Taylor Bichel 6-3, 6-0. M-P won the first two doubles matches.

Dana Bichel-Cheyenne Coe surpassed Emily Gonzalez-Annika Hatfield 6-3, 6-0 but it took three sets for Athena Rondeau and Katie Stuart to get by Nina Cameron-Coortney Krause 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Gabby Nelson and Allyson Roller of Arlington beat M-P’s Taylor Martin-Joslynn Scharpp 6-2, 6-3 to close out the match.

Last week, Stanwood won all seven matches in a tennis rout of M-P.

The No. 1 doubles team of Dana and Taylor Bichel won their first set 6-4 but lost the second 6-2. Stanwood won the tiebreaker 12-10.

Also for the Tomahawks, Paige Bramer won eight games, Taylor Martin-Kristina Gret six, Cheyenne Coe five, Athena Rondeau-Katie Stuart three, Maria Prater one and Hayley Dixon none.

Tuesday, Marysville Getchell fell to Snohomish 7-0. For the Chargers, Meghan Zimmerman won a game, Sophia Trujillo won four, Marla Falcon was blanked, Ashlyn Rounds won three, Hannah Jones-Abbi Pfeil were blanked, Fatima Acevedo-Areselie Marmolejo won two, and Autum Perkins-Tristan Retro won eight games.

Golf

At Cedarcrest Golf Course in Marysville, Marysville Getchell beat visiting Oak Harbor 531-628 in a girls matchup.

MG took the top three spots over the 18 holes with Abbie Braun shooting a 91, Nicole Phengmuang a 96 and Emily Reynolds a 109.

Also for the Chargers, Chloe Braaten was fifth with a 117, Haley Francis sixth with a 118 and Natalie Furness eighth with a 122.

Nicole shot a 45 on the front nine to lead at that point as Abbie shot a 47. But Abbie torched the back nine with a 44, while Nicole had a 51. In a match at Gleneagle, M-P beat Arlington 246 to 281.

Baseball

MG blew a 5-0 lead then came back in the top of the seventh to make it close, but still lost to Everett 9-8.

After a scoreless first three innings, MG scored five in the fourth. Everett punched in three runs in the fifth.

But the Chargers went through four pitchers in the sixth inning, giving up six runs to dig themselves into a hole they couldn’t get out of.

Malakhi Knight led MG at the plate going 2-3 with a double.

In other games, M-P romped over Stanwood 12-4 and Lakewood fell to Nooksack Valley 6-2.
