Football
Lakewood was the only local high school football team to win Friday, 26-14 over Lynden. They are tied for first in the Northwest 2A League with Sedro-Woolley. Overall, they are 4-1, while S-W is 3-2.
Arlington fell to 3-2 overall with a 35-21 loss to Graham-Kapowsin. They are 1-1 in the Wesco 3A North league.
Marysville-Pilchuck fell to first-place Ferndale 46-7 to fall to 1-2 in league, 2-3 overall.
And Marysville Getchell lost to Stanwood 48-14 to fall to 0-3 in league, 0-5 overall.
This week, Lakewood is at Anacortes, Arlington hosts M-P, and MG hosts Oak Harbor. All the games start at 7 p.m.
The previous week quarterback Kee-An Ballard threw for three touchdowns to lead M-P to a 42-6 victory over Marysville Getchell in the Berry Bowl.
The Tomahawks scored all of their points in the first three quarters and allowed the Chargers just 78 yards of total offense through three quarters before pulling their starters.
Ferndale beat up on Arlington 41-13.
Austin Lane threw for three touchdowns with 231 yards on 21-of-26 passing as host Lakewood took down Burlington-Edison 34-17.
Tulalip Heritage blanked Seattle Lutheran 64-0 as NaShone Whitebear ran for 200 yards and four touchdowns.
Tennis
MARYSVILLE – In tennis, Marysville-Pilchuck beat Marysville Getchell 6-1 and Lynnwood 6-1, but lost to Everett 5-2.
MG’s only win was at No. 3 singles, with Bob Green beating Connor Peterson 6-4, 6-2. For M-P, Parker Devereux beat Eben Heacock 6-1, 6-4; Luke Dobler won over Evan Sprague 6-3, 6-3; and Treven Southard beat Colby Wagstaff 6-3, 6-3. In doubles, Aaron Kalab-Dan Kirkwood beat Luke Olasan-Walker Braillard 6-1 6-7 (4-7) and then 10-4 in the tiebreaker.
Cabe Coen-Mack Gray were blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Kobe-Bauman-Coby Nelson. And Dawson Coe-Colby Phelps won over David Samaniego-Ian Crosby 6-4, 6-2.
Against Lynnwood, winners were: Dobler 6-1, 6-0; Peterson 6-4, 6-0; Southard 5-7, 7-6 10-7; Kalab-Kirkwood-6-3, 6-2; Nelson-Bauman 6-2, 6-0; and Coe-Phelps 6-2, 6-1.
In the loss, winners for M-P were Dobler 6-3, 1-6, 10-8; and Southard 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.
M-P lost to Stanwood 4-3. Dobler won 6-3, 6-3 at second singles, and Baumann-Nelson won in No. 2 doubles 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), while Colby and Brady Phelps took the No. 3 doubles match 6-4, 6-4.
MG also lost to Everett 6-1. The only Chargers winner was Green at third singles. He lost the first set 6-0, but came back to win the next two 6-2, 6-2. Gray lost a close match at third singles 7-6, 6-4.
Coach Stacie Pate said MG also fell to Snohomish 6-0. Green almost was victorious, losing 6-4 in the first set, winning 6-2 in the second, but falling 7-6 in the third. Parsons also had a very close match at No. 4 singles, winning the second set 6-4, but falling in the first 6-2 and the third 7-6.
MG lost to Stanwood 6-1, with Heacock at No. 1 singles the only victor 6-4, 6-1. Finally, MG fell to Mountlake Terrace 5-2. Parsons won 6-1, 6-0, and the doubles team of Gray-Coe took the No. 2 match 6-4, 4-6 and 6-2. The other two doubles teams took their matches to three sets. At No. 1, Braillard-Olasan lost 6-3, 0-6, 1-6; and at No. 3 Samaniego-Crosby lost 6-1, 2-6, 4-6. At No. 2 singles, Evan Sprague lost 6-2, 4-6, 3-6.
On Wednesday, M-P beat MG in tennis 4-3. More results were not turned in by press time.
ARLINGTON – In tennis, Arlington blanked Marysville-Pilchuck 7-0. Conner Fochesato beat Devereux 6-3, 6-0; Will Eckley beat Dobler in a tiebreaker 7-5, 2-6; Palmisano bested Peterson, also in a tiebreaker, 6-4, 1-6; and Johnathon Leon-Guerro won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 against Southard. In doubles, Taras McCurdie-Vincent Loftis won 6-4, 6-3 over Kalab-Kirkwood; Ben Spores-Ben Nichols won 6-1, 6-3 over Bauman-Nelson; and Dean Shepherd-Burch Walker beat Coe-Chris Hackman in a close one 7-5, 6-4.
The Eagles also beat MG 6-1. The only win for the Chargers was at No. 2 doubles as Olason-Braillard scored a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Leon-Guerro and Palmisano. Eagle victors were: Fochesato against Heacock 6-2, 6-4; Eckley over Wagstaff 6-0, 4-6, 6-4; Spores over Parsons 6-2, 6-0; and Nichols over Parsons 6-1, 6-3. In doubles, McCurdie-Loftis were victorious over Evan Sprague—Green 6-4, 6-4; and Shepherd-Walker won over Coe-Gray 6-1, 7-5.
Against Everett, Arlington lost 5-2. Spores-Nichols won at No. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-4 and McCurdie won at No. 2 singles in a tiebreaker 10-7 after splitting the first two sets 5-7, 6-4. This week against Oak Harbor, the Eagles won 5-2 to improve their WesCo record to 6-2. Overall Arlington is 8-3.
Arlington won all three doubles matches to take the win. Spores-Loftis won 6-2, 6-2; Leon-Guerrero-Nichols won 6-0, 6-4; and Shepherd-Walker took the third match 6-3, 6-3. The teams split the singles matches, Fochesato and Eckley losing at No. 1 and No. 2, but McCurdie and Palmisano winning at No. 3 and No. 4.
Volleyball
ARLINGTON – In volleyball, the Arlington High School volleyball squad beat Mountlake Terrace 3-1. The Eagles almost won in straight sets, but fell in the third 28-26. They won the other games 25-15, 26-16 and finished with a 25-19 victory. Coach Whitney Williams said Arianna Bilby stood out with 19 kills, four aces and five digs. Reese Talbot had 10 kills and five aces, and Caroline Diemer had 34 assists.
Arlington also beat Marysville Getchell, but in three straight, 25-14, 25-7 and 25-13. The same three players again stood out: Bilby with nine kills, five digs and five aces; Diemer with six aces at 22 assists, and Talbot with nine kills and two aces.
Arlington beat Edmonds-Woodway 3-1 this week, 18-25, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-20.
Bilby again led the way with 20 kills, three aces, five digs and two blocks. Diemer had 35 assists and Talbot 15 kills and an ace. Michaela Camlin and Sarah Mekelburg each had four aces, and Julia Parra contributed three blocks.
MARYSVILLE – Marysville-Pilchuck and Marysville Getchell faced off Wednesday in a volleyball match.

Cross country
MARYSVILLE – Arlington finished the best among the local cross country teams at the 11th annual Twilight Cross Country Invitational Saturday at Cedarcrest Golf Course.
Senior Dawson Andrews of Arlington placed 10th with a time of 15 minutes, 51.91 seconds as the Eagles placed seventh out of 33 teams in the 3A-4A race.
Hundreds of runners competed overall, including 70 teams.
Senior Mary Andrews placed 44th to lead the Arlington girls to a 12th-place finish. Her time was 19:55.85.
Marysville Getchell placed 21st for the boys and the girls 35th. Senior Gregory Panther was 35th in 16:22.78, and sophomore Julia Rea was 70th in 20:31.19 to lead the way.
Marysville-Pilchuck’s boys were led by junior Tanner Lauzon, who was 24th in 17:33.73, as the squad finished 31st.
In the 1B-2A race, Lakewood’s girls placed sixth and the boys 12th. Sophomore Callie Buchanan led the way placing 35th in 21:15.58, while sophomore Alex Jensen was 37th in 17:38.9 for the boys.
Girls soccer
In girls soccer this week, all three local 3A schools lost: Snohomish 2, Marysville Getchell 0; Meadowdale 2, Marysville Pilchuck 1; and Oak Harbor 2, Arlington 1. In the Northwest 2A league, Lakewood beat Mount Baker 3-2.
In vollyeball, Lakewood blanked Mount Baker 3-0.
Swimming
MARYSVILLE – In swimming, both Marysville-Pilchuck and Marysville Getchell had standout performances in recent meets.
