MARYSVILLE — A no-hitter is a no-hitter.

Senior Matt Cooper dominated Cascade April 13 for five innings to the tune of allowing just a few base runners and no hits during Marysville-Pilchuck’s 14-0 win.

“He was just pretty solid, locating his fastball, which he has done all season,” said M-P manager Kurt Koshelnik. “We strung together a few hits and they kicked the ball around, and that was about it.”

The game lasted just five innings due to the mercy rule.

The Tomahawks scored what would later become the game-winning run in the first inning. Dane Widness doubled on a shallow fly to left field and came across on an infield error that was put in play by Austin Denton.

Marysville then rattled off 12 runs in the second inning, powered by Widness, who finished the game 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs.

Meanwhile, Cooper kept Bruins hitters off balance by changing speeds and getting a number of first-pitch strikes using his off-speed pitches. Cooper struck out nine and walked just one in the no-hitter.

The Tomahawks remain undefeated so far this season with a 11-0 record overall and a 9-0 mark in Wesco North play.

“Record-wise, we’ve done really well, but we’ve squeaked by in several games now,” Koshelnik said. “So we’ve got some things to clean up.”

Also standing out for the Tommies was second baseman Ryan Turner, who went 1-for-1 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored.
