MARYSVILLE — Tomahawk senior running back Austin Denton doesn’t stop until he gets to the end zone.

“He is a talented back who can either make you miss or run over you,” said coach Brandon Carson of Denton, who had his fourth 200-plus yard game in Marysville-Pilchuck’s 42-7 win over Stanwood Sept. 25. The boys improved to 2-0 in conference and 4-0 overall.

Denton scored four touchdowns and ran for 233 yards — about two-thirds of the team’s total offensive yards — with help from the offensive line and fellow backs A.J. Kvangnes and Kyle Miller, who combined for another 100 yards. Miller scored first to give the Tomahawks their first lead of the game on an 11-yard run, and again from three yards out in the third quarter.

A fumble returned for a touchdown was all that kept the Tomahawks from their second shutout of the season.

“The kids did a good job of taking away their down field passing game,” Carson said, crediting his defensive crew. He attributed his team’s success to their work ethic. “We have a large number of kids that practice hard day in and day out.”

M-P is on the road for their fifth game of the season, visiting Arlington. Denton is on pace to earn his 1,000th yard of the season there, likely late in the first quarter.
