ARLINGTON – The Eagles girls soccer team is getting hot just at the right time.
They have won six of their last eight matches, the most-recent blanking Stanwood 3-0 Tuesday night to stay in the running for a state berth.
Arlington will play Edmonds-Woodway for third place in the 3A District 1 Tournament Thursday at 5 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium. The winner advances to state.
Hannah Hiester put the Eagles up 1-0 in the first half, with an assist from Ali Krediet. Jersey Heiss and Riley Christensen both scored unassisted tallies after halftime, and Alexine Miller-Wood provided a shutout in goal for the Eagles (9-9-1).
Stanwood’s season ends at 8-10.
The Eagles finished in the middle of the pack during the regular season.
Girls volleyball
In a 2A play-in game Tuesday Bellingham blanked Lakewood 3-0 to end the Cougars season.
In regular season 3A play, Marysville Getchell beat Shorecrest 3-0.
Also, Meadowdale surprised Arlington, winning 3-2.
The Eagles won the first game 25-19 and 25-15, but lost the second and fourth sets 25-19 and 25-20. In the deciding fifth set, the Mavs won 15-7.
Arlington dropped to 10-4, and Meadowdales is now 9-6.
Emily Mekelburg recorded a game-high 20 kills for the Eagles. Julia Parra added five with two blocks. Hailey Wood has two kills, five service aces and five digs. Taylor Pederson contributed 27 assists.
Meanwhile, Marysville-Pilchuck ended its season with a 3-0 loss to Stanwood, 12-2.
The set scores were 25-17, 25-20 and 25-16.
M-P received three kills apiece from Jenna Olson and Alexis Wojcicki. Olson added eight blocks. Alison Compton had seven assists.
