M-P was one of 22 teams at the annual Arlington junior varsity tournament Saturday, Jan. 6, and fared quite well for themselves.
JV coach John Hodgins said it was an outstanding effort from his grapplers.
There were 25 kids that wrestled at least three matches apiece and everybody won at least one, he said.
Out of the 25 total JV competitors for the Tommies, 14 placed in the top three.
The seven first-place finishers were Kyle Ripley, Luke Shumaker, Philip Klein, Brad Dallman, Kyle Boze, Ricky Dschaak and Tannon Hillis.
The lone second-place finisher was Ryan Mead.
There were a half-dozen third-place grapplers on the afternoon: Jake Hodgins, Jake Lervold, Josh Lee, Colton Cushing, Auston Mathis and Taylor Hall.
The M-P wrestling team began 2007 in similar fashion as 2006 ended with a loss. The 43-28 Wesco North loss to the visiting Monroe Bearcats occurred at the Jim Linden Fieldhouse.
The Tommies dropped to 0-4 in league action and 3-5 overall while Monroe improved to 1-3, 4-3.
M-P received victories from freshman Brian Donaldson at 103-pounds, junior Jason Blevins in the 112-lb. weight class, freshman Jake Lervold at 119-pounds.
Co-captain Richard Dormaier, senior, was victorious at 125-lb. with a 5-2 decision, junior Nick Libbing pinned his opponent in the 130-lb. class, and sophomore 285-lber Bryant Dickerson rounded out the scoring in the heavyweight division.
