MARYSVILLE — The Soundair Flyers started strong but were overcome by the La Hacienda defense and a few defensive lapses of their own.
The Flyers fell 19-10 in the first game of the Monday night men’s league doubleheader Aug. 3.
After four innings, the Flyers led 10-9, but they wouldn’t score again in the next three innings. A couple of fluke plays in the infield, including narrowly missed catches cost the Flyers a few easy outs and plays like La Hacienda pitcher Todd Alvers’ two-run homer late in the game cost them. The Flyers turned in some precise plays in the clutch, including a 6-4-3 double play to close out the top of the sixth inning and a tag at home for an out by Efrain Gonzalez, but couldn’t score the runs to stay in the game.
The teams are playing in the city of Marysville’s recreational softball league. Men’s teams play Mondays and Fridays, coed teams Sundays and Wednesdays at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
