Lakewood booster auction set

LAKEWOOD — The annual Lakewood Sports Booster Club auction is set for March 12 at the Stillaguamish Senior Center.

The auction, which is in its sixth year, helps raise money for the 14 Lakewood athletic programs through donations.

“They raise quite a bit of money to help our athletes,” said Lakewood athletic director Matt Blair. “Events like the auction give coaches another avenue to help their programs and athletes.”

As the booster clubs is a non-profit group, every dollar made will be turned over to the sport it is intended to fund. Those funds are used in a variety of different ways, from team camps and equipment to helping disadvantaged athletes afford to play.

In the past, auction items have included anything from condo stays and Mariner tickets to employing a football player for a day.

“It’s been a very important event for our schools and community to get out and get involved,” Blair said.

It also helps those wanting to meet the architects of the programs.

“It’s great because all of the coaches are active and visible for anyone to talk to,” said club secretary Kathy Christiansen.

For those wanting to donate to the event, the deadline to do so is March 5. Tickets are on sale for $25 per person, which includes dinner.

In the past, Christiansen said the auction has raised as much as $15,000.
