The Cougars placed eighth for the girls and 17th for the boys at the Birger Solberg Invitational, April 10, at Civic Field in Bellingham.
Standing out from the Lakewood girls was senior Chrystle Clark, who finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.82. Clark was also fourth in the long jump at 15-07.
Clark wasn’t the only runner-up for the Cougars, as junior Sam Adams’ javelin toss of 118-11 was the second best throw on the day and Kelsey Anderson finished the 1,600-meter race in third place at 5:14.42. Anderson was also part of the 4×400 relay team finishing fifth, along with Ariel Jensen, Amber Burnell and Erin Dierickx.
The boys were highlighted by Nick Howe’s victory in the 800-meter spring, finishing nearly a second ahead of the competition with a time of 2:00.17.
The 4×800 relay team finished fourth (8:53.86) and was comprised of Mitchel Gogert, Jake Howe, Avery Jensen and Kris Mugrage.
For Marysville-Pilchuck, the girls top performers, started with the 4×400 relay team, which was the Tommies’ sole first-place finish, which was run by Stephanie Banas, Summer Cull, Dacia Heckendorf and Farrah Bradley in 4:14.59. That same group, although running in a different order, finished second in the 4×100 relay with a time of 52.41.
Senior sprinter Alisha Oden scored a runner-up and fourth place finish in the 100- and 200-meter races, respectively. She finished the 100 in 13.26 and the 200 in 27.53.
Senior Kiely Cordon also had a couple of top-5 results, coming from the 100 hurdles (3rd, 16.89) and the 300 hurdles (4th, 51.25).
In the field, Hannah Kreutz finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 109-03 while Sarah Clark (10-00) was third in the pole vault and Riley Taitingfong (9-06) was fourth.
Senior Cali Cull’s triple jump of 34-02.5 was third in the competition.
For the boys, Mark Pangilinan placed third in the 200-meter race at 23.32 and second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.55. Pangilinan was also a member of the second-place (44.35) 4×100 relay team along with AJ Kvangnes, Cody House and Jeffrey Pina.
Sophomore Mark Oden was third in the high jump, reaching 5-10.
