Lakewood to get new baseball, softball fields

LAKEWOOD – It’s baseball’s and softball’s turn.

The Lakewood School Board Wednesday approved replacing the baseball and softball facilities with synthetic turf fields.

The newly remodeled high school already has a new football and soccer stadium, along with track facilities.

The board has been working with Cascade Design Collaborative on this-latest project and studying various options for the field replacements.

They had narrowed their options to two. One included a full build synthetic turf field for both baseball and softball. The other included three synthetic infields (one baseball and two softball).

The recommendation from Superintendent Michael Mack was to move forward with Option 1 as it seemed to provide the best value for most students, the highest return on investment, and it more closely matches the fields/gym provided for the district’s other sports.

Work on the project will begin immediately with surveying, permitting and geotechnical studies. An estimated completion date will be this fall.
