MARYSVILLE – Swimmers from the combined Marysville Getchell-Marysville-Pilchuck high school boys swim team had a chance to qualify for the post-season at the Last Chance swim meet Thursday at M-P.
Two swimmers qualified at the meet for district, both from MG. Micah Brewer will swim in the 50-yard freestyle and Jesse Nahinu in the 100-yard butterfly.
Qualifying at earlier meets for M-P were: Jared Edge in the 50- and 100-frees; Jake Howat in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke; Ian Meetsma in the 500 free and 100 breast; Nate Novy in the 100 and 200 free; Leif Anderson in diving and the 100 breast; and Andrew Kallio in diving.
Qualifying for MG earlier were: Kameron Wilkes in the 50 free and 100 fly; Jesse Nahinu in the 50 free; and Carlos Pineda, Ben Malaby, Nick Scharbach and Anthony Seng, all in diving.
Only four from the same team can advance to districts in the same event. Coach Meredith Jenks said that rule was put in so the top teams aren’t the only ones that have a chance at sending swimmers to state.
Jenks said Meetsma and two M-P relay teams have the best chances of placing in the top four at district next weekend in Snohomish.
State qualifiers compete the following week in Federal Way.
