While the conference champion Marysville-Pilchuck soccer team won’t get the automatic state berth of past Wesco North winners, they will get a state tournament-caliber opponent in their district tournament opener.
After finishing the regular season undefeated with a 14-0-2 record, the Tomahawks draw Wesco South No. 2 Jackson tonight at 7 p.m. in a “home” game at Lake Stevens High School. The Tomahawks, who are ranked No. 4 in The Seattle Times soccer poll, draw the No. 9 Timberwolves, who finished second to Kamiak.
“Jackson looks like the best team we’ll be playing all year,” said Tomahawk coach Geoff Kittle after his team wrapped up their season with a 4-0 win over Arlington, marking three straight shutouts to end the regular season.
The winner will advance to the district championship game May 16 at Edmonds Stadium against the winner of the Snohomish-Kamiak game tonight, where they’ll play for the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds into the state tournament. The loser will play Edmonds-Woodway May 14 in a loser-out game for a chance at the district’s third seed.
I’ll be providing live updates of today’s game from my Twitter account, which will also be streamed live in the box above.
