LIVE COVERAGE: Marysville-Pilchuck baseball plays Monroe for a winner-to-state game today

The Marysville-Pilchuck baseball team wrapped up its regular season with a 17-3 record, cruising to the Wesco North championship with a 15-1 record.

On Saturday, May 9, the boys won their district opener on their home field, pulling out a 3-2 win over No. 5-seed Lake Stevens in the seventh inning and advancing to today’s winner-to-state game against Monroe at Everett Memorial Stadium at 4 p.m.

After just the first round, the district tournament has confounded regular-season wisdom, with the Tomahawks the only top-seeded team to win last weekend. Already, respected Cascade and Mountlake Terrace teams — the only 4A teams to beat M-P this season — have been eliminated in loser-out games.

But Monroe shouldn’t be counted out. The Bearcats finished third in the league, going 10-1 in their last 11 games, dating back to their series losses to M-P in early April. One plus: the Bearcats started their winningest pitcher, Jacob Reppert, against the Hawks on Saturday, leaving him unlikely to grace the mound much, if at all, today.

The loser of this game faces the winner of Cascade-Shorewood May 13 while the winner advances to the district championship game May 16 against the winner of Snohomish-Kamiak.

I’ll be providing live updates of today’s game from my Twitter account, which will also be streamed live in the box above.
