MARYSVILLE – Marysville Getchell jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but it was short-lived as Marysville—Pilchuck powered past the visiting Chargers in wrestling Thursday night 47-14.
Cody Mitchell got MG off to its quick start winning a 7-1 decision over Mikey Bejar at 113 pounds. In one of the best matches of the night, Timothy Doroshuk of MG then beat Alex Foster 8-6 at 120 pounds.
The Tomahawks won the next two matches with Tanner Lauzon pinning Taylor Herridge in 3 minutes, 33 seconds at 126 pounds, and junior Austin Davis winning a major decision over Miguel Ramirez-Garcia 14-6.
In one of the featured matches of the night, at 138 pounds, Trey Padgett of MG beat Nick Cantu with a stunning pin in 5:14.
The Tomahawks then went on a roll, winning the next six matches.
Jonathon Goeden started it off pinning Matthew Paquettein in just 57 seconds. At 152 pounds, Isaiah Galindo blanked Jesus Cabadas 8-0 for a major decision.
In a match that seemed closer than it ended up to be Ahmad Humoud won a 12-5 decision over Christopher Bonner at 160 pounds. At 170 pounds, Mauro Bejar pinned Andrew Cantu in 1:56.
Freshman sensation Cayden White continued his impressive year, pinning Edgar Duenas in 1:12 at 182 pounds. At 195 pounds, Ikaika Naweli pinned Caleb Blonk in 3:16.
Cheron Smith finally got MG back on the board, pinning Kamiakin Craig in 3:38 at 220 pounds.
In the 285-pound matchup, Jeff Roullier of M-P pinned Erick Duenas in 5:13.
MG’s other points came when Jacob Steele won by forfeit at 106 pounds.
Boys swimming
M-P won four events and MG three, but Monroe came out on top winning a swim meet Thursday 120-59 over the Tomahawks and 124-52 over the Chargers.
M-P won the 200-yard medley relay in 1 minute, 58 seconds with swimmers Ian Meetsma, Leif Anderson, Seth Little and Jayden Boyle.
Meetsa took the 50 freestyle in 25.09 seconds. He also won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.94.
In the 100 butterfly, Kameron Wilkes of MG was the winner in 1:02.55.
Charger teammate Nicholas Carlson took the 100 free in 57.45 seconds.
M-P took the 400 freestyle relay in 4:01.09 with Luke Pusateri, Boyle, Little and Meetsma competing.
Girls basketball
MG fell to Archbishop Murphy 40-30. The Chargers stayed even after a slow start, falling behind 10-2 after the first quarter.
Kiki Green led the Chargers (10-3, 4-3) with 10 points. Mikail Montez was held to 6 points, along with Maddy Grandbois and Kortney Crane 6. Sydney Norton added 2.
M-P lost at Meadowdale 74-39. and Miriah Summers netted a team-high 12 points for the Tomahawks (4-9, 0-7). Alex Grimm added 11, Madyson Baxter 9 and Alissa Edge 7.
