MARYSVILLE – The Marysville-Pilchuck boys tennis team won its home match against Lakewood Tuesday 6-1 at Totem Middle School.
Parker Devereux of M-P won easily at No. 1 singles, defeating Alex Williams 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2, Connor Peterson beat Eli Ingrum 6-1, 6-0 and Treven Southard blanked Tyler Edmonds 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, and at No. 4 Aaron Kolab also shut out Matthew Irish 6-0, 6-0.
The only win for the Cougars came at No. 1 doubles, where Ben VanderWeyst-Garrett Davis won their fourth match of the year. It was a dogfight at they won the first set over Trae Tingelstad-Carson Asper 7-6, after an 8-6 tiebreaker. The Tommies team won 7-6 in the second set, after a 7-5 tiebreaker. But the Cougar team took it after winning the final tiebreaker 10-7.
In the other two doubles matches, Kellen Richey-Brady Phelps blanked Daniel Cross-Brad Woods and Chris Hackmann-Dawson Coe shut out Sean Peacock-Kai Axthelm.
In other matches:
At Mount Vernon, Arlington lost 6-1. The only victory for the Eagles was a No. 1 singles as Taras McCurdie won 6-1, 6-3.
At Lynnwood, Marysville Getchell beat the home team 4-3.
Volleyball
At Arlington, the home team blanked Edmonds-Woodway 3-0, but every game was close. The Eagles took the first game 25-23, then won 25-22 and 25-21.
Arianna Bilby had 14 kills, six digs and four aces, and Caroline Diemer added 25 assists as Arlington improved to 4-0. At Shorewood, Marysville Getchell lost to the home team 3-1 to fall to 2-2.
The Chargers lost the first two close games 25-21 and 26-24. They pulled out a 25-20 win in the third game before losing the match in the fourth set 25-18.
On offense, Mikail Montez, Courtney Taylor and Kelsey Kolling had six kills each. Sydney Norton set them up with 28 assists, and Peyton Schmidt led the defense with 24 digs.
At Marysville, the Tomahawks dropped to 0-4 with a 25-14, 25-14 and 29-27 loss to Shorecrest, which is 2-2.
Ivy Enberg led M-P with seven kills and nine digs, while Allison Compton had 17 assists and Danika Loucks had two kills and eight digs.
Soccer
At Arlington, the Eagles lost a heartbreaker in double overtime 3-2.
At Shorecrest, M-P lost 3-0 in soccer, falling to 1-4-1, while the Scots improved to 4-0-2.
At Marysville, MG fell 2-0 to Shorewood. The Chargers are 0-4-2, while the winners are 3-2.
Swimming
At Stanwood, the home team won 133-32 over M-P and also beat MG 142-20.
