Committing three fumbles and throwing three interceptions against any team makes it difficult to win. When those six turnovers come against an undefeated Edmonds-Woodway squad on the road, it led to a 48-7 manhandling defeat of the M-P Tomahawks Friday, Oct. 20.
The loss at Edmonds District Stadium dropped the Tommies to 1-7 in league play and overall, and improved the third-ranked Warriors to a perfect 8-0.
Coach Rudy Grandbois was rather blunt in his assessment of the non-league loss.
There werent too many highlights, he said. We got manhandled pretty much.
The Heard brothers of E-W, Josh and Tony, combined for 25 rushes, 177 yards and three TDs on the evening.
E-W didnt waste any time lighting up the scoreboard as they charged out to a 28-0 first quarter lead and went into the locker room with a 41-0 advantage.
The lone touchdown for M-P came in the third quarter when junior quarterback Denay Stell connected with classmate Duane Lapeyri for a 26-yard strike.
Junior Justin Freeman converted on the extra point.
It was a tough game for us, Grandbois said matter-of-factly.
I got a lot of kids to play. That was one positive thing for us I guess. We didnt execute as well as we had hoped. Even when you face a team that tough you hope to come out knowing that you were able to move the ball well. They are ranked third in the state for a reason.
M-P will try to salvage their season at home Friday, Oct. 27 against neighbor Arlington.
Not only is it the last game of the season, but its also Homecoming for the Tomahawks.
Arlington that is the one we are gearing up for now, coach said. Its the one everyone comes back to school for. We seem to match up pretty well against them.
Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at Quil Ceda Stadium.
