MARYSVILLE – Some losses are harder to take than others.
Such was the case for Marysville-Pilchuck High School’s girls softball team Tuesday.
The Tommies suffered a heart-breaking loss to Wesco South-leading Mountlake Terrace 10-9.
What made is so hard to accept was that M-P had an 8-3 lead after five innings.
But in the top of the sixth, MLT got on one of those rolls that wouldn’t stop, collecting one hit after another, scoring six runs to take a 9-8 lead.
M-P tied it up in the bottom of the inning, but then the visitors scored one in the top of the seventh to take the win.
MLT jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but then the home team tied it up by the bottom of the second, then scored five more to take the big lead, only to lose it.
The Tommies actually outhit MLT, led by Lillianne Fischer going 3-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in.
Gabby Calhoun led the visitors going 4-4 with a double and two RBI. Jazz Zenk went 3-4, also with a double and two RBI.
MLT improved to 10-3, while M-P dropped to 8-6, which puts it third in the Wesco North.
