MUKILTEO — With any luck, the Tomahawk softball team has more games like this in them.

With a 6-0 win visiting Kamiak May 18, the Marysville-Pilchuck softball team kept their must-win streak alive, extending it to four wins, dating back to their win a week earlier over Stanwood.

Pitchers Riley Fritz and Jen Rosie combined to throw a no-hitter at Kamiak, an error at shortstop the only thing keeping them from a perfect game. The pitching was more than enough to buy time for the Tomahawk base-hitting to get started.

In the third inning, shortstop Jessica Christensen led off with a single, moving quickly to third base with Rosie’s double. Another hit by Jessica Tanigawa loaded the bases, setting up an RBI by Fritz to score Christensen. A wild pitch gave Tanigawa the opportunity to take home and the Tomahawks took the 2-0 lead into the fifth inning, where they widened it.

Sophomore Sacha Clow tripled to left field, one of four Tomahawk hits to knock up against the fence. A double by Fritz scored her, kicking off three-straight RBI hits from the Tomahawk lineup, including an RBI double from third baseman Megan Bombach.

The Tomahawks’ final run came in the sixth inning as Morgan Martinis led off with a double to left field. A grounder by Rosie up the middle gave the girls their final tally.

Led by the dual pitching effort, the Tomahawks seem to be getting comfortable with the roster they’ll carry into districts, which begin May 20 at Sky River Park in Monroe.

“We’ve had to claw our way in. Most teams knew they were in awhile ago,” said M-P coach K.T. Allyn. “I think it’s to our advantage that we play our way in.”
