MARYSVILLE The Lady Tomahawks qualified one diver at the 4A District One diving competition and lost to Jackson Thursday, Oct. 19-21.
Junior Trang Vu qualified for 4A state competition at the M-P pool Saturday, Oct. 21 with a score of 324.10.
Freshman Sarah Clark nearly made the 315 point qualifying standard with her third-place score of 311.50.
M-P lost to the visiting Lady Timberwolves of Jackson 117-68 Thursday, Oct. 19.
Vu won the diving portion of the meet with 208.60 points.
Coach Jaci Legore-Hodgins said it was a great meet and most of the swimmers dropped time in one place or another.
Once again our dives were our strength overall, she said.
We are looking to an awesome grand finale for everybodys last competitions. The varsity team is currently preparing for districts. Kami Girard and Trang Vu have already qualified for state, so we know we will be going. We have more swimmers who can qualify at districts.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of sophomores Kami Girard, Emily Reinig, Amanda Vincelette and junior Michaela Caldwell swam to a first-place time of 4:03.85.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Girard, sophomore Melinda Blomberg, Caldwell and Vincelette placed second in a time of 2:03.05.
Individually, Vincelette (27:24) and Reinig (28:24) finished second and third place, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle.
The talented two also finished second and third in the 100-yard freestyle.
Girard placed third in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:06.52, and second place in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.98.
Blomberg touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.43.
The 200-yard relay team of Reinig, senior Emily Turner, freshmen Leah Gordon and Megan Shoemaker placed third in a time of 1:59.37.
Despite placing third out of four, senior Julianne Mack said it was a bittersweet feeling after her last home meet as a Lady Tomahawk.
Every year I want it (the season) to end, but not this year, she said clutching a rose.
Hopefully I will make districts, but if not Ill set my sights on JV champs. The co-captain said she has her sights set on Washington State University, but is still undecided.
Two-four-six-eight you swam really great the M-P squad cheered at the conclusion of the meet.
The next meet for the Lady Tomahawks is the 4A North division qualifying meet and seed at Snohomish High School.
The Thursday, Oct. 26 is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
