MARYSVILLE The effort displayed by the M-P boys tennis team was not reflected in their results for the week of Sept. 25-29.
M-P lost three Wesco North league matches 6-1 to Snohomish, 5-2 to Everett and 6-1 to Stanwood.
M-P now has a 5-6 record in league and overall after the busy week of competition.
Although M-P was defeated 6-1 by league leader Stanwood Friday, Sept. 29, head coach Robert Sherry was happy with his teams effort.
To have five three-set matches against the number one team I am very, very proud of the way they played today, Sherry said.
The lone victory for M-P came from the number three doubles duo of senior Jacob Newman and junior Derrick Sherman.
Newman-Sherman won 6-7, (4-7), 7-5, 6-4.
The number one doubles team, of junior Riley Gilbertson and senior Joel Anderson nearly pulled off a huge victory before falling 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4).
Against the Everett Seagulls Wednesday, Sept. 27, M-P received victories from the number one doubles team of Gilbertson and senior Michael Stadium and the number three doubles squad of juniors Christopher Wall and Derrick Sherman.
Gilbertson-Stadum won 6-2, 6-3 and Wall-Sherman won 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
The lone win Monday, Sept. 25 against Snohomish came from the number one doubles duo of junior Riley Gilbertson and senior Joel Anderson.
The competitive duo battled to a 6-3, 4-6. 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker victory.
