MARYSVILLE — The Marysville grapplers didn’t waste any time or energy in taking down Oak Harbor 61-13 in a Wesco North double dual.
M-P scored seven pins in the meet — and all were inside the first two minutes.
“It’s real nice to see them get on a roll like that,” said M-P coach Craig Iversen. “You see them get a little more confidence and really go for it once they see their teammates have success.”
The pins started with Christian Mendoza at 130 pounds, who took down his opponent in 1:10 to make the score 9-0 and start a run of four consecutive pinfalls for M-P.
He was followed by Brandon Blevens at 130 pounds, who took down Ryuta Meany in 1:32, and Thomas Haas at 140, who took down Kekai Tarrant in 42 seconds. Finally Dimitri Robinson put Devin Jensen on his back in 34 seconds to make the score 27-0.
Other pins for M-P were Chris Herbert (171 pounds) in 49 seconds, Marcus Haughian (189) in 45 seconds and Thomas Hoeper (heavyweight) in 1:07.
There were a few Tommies that had close matches, and of those Iversen said that Luis Cardona’s 17-6 victory over Corey Trimbur was vital.
“That was a huge match for us,” said Iversen. “He’s been coming on strong recently and we’re excited about his progress.”
Also getting wins for the Tommies were Nate Wright at 125 pounds, who won 15-11 over James Harrison and both Mark Mullen (103) and Skyler Hatch (215) won by forfeit.
M-P is 3-1 on the season.
