MARYSVILLE — Tomahawk sports will join familiar opponents in a new conference as they move to Wesco 3A North beginning in 2012-13. Stanwood will do the same.
“We reclassify every two years based on enrollment and M-P shrank when Marysville Getchell opened,” Marysville District Athletic Director Greg Erickson said. “It’s good for the community and it’s fun for the schools to put them together and keep the non-league competition with their North and South counterparts. Marysville and Snohomish even have an old relationship and a lot of people enjoy going to those games.”
The switch will increase revenue and lower costs of travel and arrangement.
Division changes will apply to all sports except cross country, swimming and possibly track & field.
Mount Vernon will move from the Northwest Conference to join Arlington, Lake Stevens, Monroe and Snohomish in the Wesco North. Lynnwood will join Cascade, Edmonds-Woodway, Jackson, Kamiak and Mariner in the 4A South.
