Thirteen skaters from the Marysville Skating Club competed at the National Championships held in Lincoln, Neb., in late July and early August. A number of the skaters competed in more than one event.
In order to compete at the National Championships, a skater must first compete and receive a placement at the Regional Championships.
At the national championships,
Marisa Gran received a gold medal in Elementary C Girls Figures
Michael and Della Sheedy received a silver medal in Classic Team Dance
Hayden Schmidt with partner Cidney Evanson from Auburn received a silver medal in Juvenile Team Dance.
Hayden Schmidt received a bronze medal in Juvenile Boys Freeskating.
Three members of the Marysville Skating Club Pamela Gable, Leah Murray and Brenda Schmidt, are participants on the Northern Dynamics Precision Team that received a bronze medal in the Precision Team portion of the competition.
Five skaters, while not receiving a placement, skated the finals in at least one of their respective events they are Brenda Schmidt, Heather Baxter, Murray, Gran and Gable. Making the finals at the national competition is quite impressive and should be recognized as an event can be up to 36 skaters and gets narrowed down in most events to less than 10 skaters to determine the final placements and awards.
The other members of the club that competed at the national competition were Miranda Heggie, Kristin Perry, Dale Mohler, Dianne Best-Wildermuth and Ed Isaacson.
Two of the club coaches, Marlene and Jerry Bruland, were presented with a Lifetime award from the Society of Roller Skating Teachers Association, while at the National Championships. They are Northern Dynamics precision team coaches, and have been coaching now for a combined 51 years.
The club is preparing to get their new season underway and will be working hard to blaze their trail to the 2007 National Championships.
