MARYSVILLE — Team trilogy has one simple piece of advice.

“Just get it done quick and you can get some rest,” said Ryan Shannon.

That strategy was especially relevant at this year’s I-5 Extravaganza 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, where temperatures reached in the 90s during both days of competition at Tulalip Resort Casino.

“It was hot, but that’s okay,” said Emmanuel Chibuogwa. “But we had fun with it.”

Under the most difficult conditions, the trilogy performed their best, beating the competition in the boys high school gold division.

The team, which was made up of Marysville-Pilchuck students Shannon, Nate Williams and Dom Kiblinger, along with Shorecrest’s Chibuogwa, relied on the kind of fluid play that can only come from players being familiar with each other.

“All of us are friends and we’ve played together for years,” said Chibuogwa. “We just kind of get together and play this tournament.”

This foursome doesn’t play at this annual tournament exclusively, but for the most part, the four have been on the same team.

The group played quick and hard as to stay out of the heat, but it was also their style.

“You don’t have to pace yourself as much in tournaments like this as you do when playing 5-on-5,” Shannon said. “You can go hard the whole time and then you get some rest until the next game.”
