MARYSVILLE – Marysville Getchell scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to break open a close game against Arlington Friday.
Trailing 4-0 after two innings, the Eagles kept chipping away at the lead to pull within5-3 in the top of the inning. But the Chargers rallied to put the game away. Hannah Kranz and Makinna VanHorn both his doubles for the winners.
For Arlington, Kali Klein smacked two doubles and Alex Orozco hit a triple.
Freshman Bri Palm was the winning pitcher. Tia Langley suffered the defeat.
Arlington did score a win in girls’ tennis, blanking Marysville-Pilchuck 7-0 at Totem Middle School.
In No. 1 singles, Layla Garduno-Cravioto of Arlington edged Destany Bogart in two close sets 6-4, 7-5. Bethany Barnett of Arlington blanked Taylor Boyle at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0, and Ashley Kolbeck did the same to Dana Bichel. At No. 4, Eva Donnelson defeated Cheyenne Coe 6-1, 6-2.
M-P didn’t do any better in the doubles matches. Margarita Muro-Emily Songster beat Athena Rondeau-Rosa Palma 6-0, 6-2. And Faith Gould-Taryn Mindt defeated Joslynn Scharpp-Emily Anderson 6-0, 6-1. Arlington won No. 3 doubles by forfeit.
In other action Friday:
•Arlington beat Lynnwood in baseball 3-2 behind the pitching of Tristan Sheward and the hitting of Branden Perdue, who went 3-3 with two runs batted in.
•Marysville Getchell lost to Mountlake Terrace 10-2. Zach Townsend got two of the three hits for MG, including a double.
•Marysville-Pilchuck lost a heart-breaker to Edmonds Woodway 4-2 when Brandon Mitchell hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh for the home team. Mark Bieawski led the Tommies at the plate going 2-4 and an RBI. Kyler Alvis added a double and knocked in two runs.
•In softball, M-P fell to Everett 13-6, even though both teams pounded out 14 hits. The Tommies had four errors. Sydney Zachry starred at the plate for M-P going 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
•In tennis, MG was blanked by Everett 7-0.
