TACOMA – Marysville Getchell’s first trip to state at the Tacoma Dome was short-lived.
The No. 15 Chargers, facing No. 2 Wilson, had problems both offensively and defensively against the powerful Rams, losing 73-52. Malakhi Knight scored a game-high 29 points for MG on 11 of 24 shooting. Both he and Josiah Koellmer were 4 of 11 from 3-point land. Koellmer added 14 points.
MG was hurt by 19 turnovers, and Wilson had 14 steals.
Landyn Olson led the team in rebounding with 7.
Both teams took 58 shots, but Wilson had 29 and MG 20. The Chargers were 8 of 28 from the 3-point line, while Wilson was 3 of 8. MG rarely went to the foul line, making 4 of 7 while the Rams were 12 of 18.
Wilson, 22-3, was actually outrebounded 36-35 by MG, 17-9.
Wilson held MG to 6 points in the first quarter on the way to a 16-6 lead.
The Rams exploded for 23 points in the second period in taking a 39-14 halftime advantage.
MG finally got its offense going in the third, being outscored just 18-16, but still trailing 57-30.
The Chargers outscored the winners 22-16 in the final period.
