Seniors played a large part in the 2007 Tomahawk soccer teams first-ever playoff season. Veterans made up a large part of the M-P offense, with seniors scoring every goal this season except two.
Melissa Lauer, Kassandra Riozzi and Hannah Wood led the offense with a combined 24 goals and 15 assists.
M-P coach Geoff Kittle reflected on the strengths of the seniors who made up this years Tomahawk squad.
Skyler Peterson, goalkeeper:
Shes always been tough and probably Id have to say the most athletic goalkeeper weve had that Ive known of. Shes stepped up a few times and said some things that got girls motivated. I think you look at her in that last game, she really cared about the game and wanted to play her best.
Felicia Hendrickson, defender:
Felicia has always been just a super hard worker. I was glad that she was able to find a role to really support the team. She didnt play that many minutes last year, and to find a role where she plays almost the entire game as a left back, I thought she did a great job there.
Tanessa Williams, forward:
Shes someone thats been a really focused player as well. Shes always been showing a lot of intensity at practice, really tough and very coachable. Just a solid, good-character kid.
Melissa Lauer and
Hannah Wood, forwards:
Melissa Lauer, well miss her scoring, probably. She was a really prolific scorer this year, and shes been a really big scoring threat for the last four years. The same with Hannah Wood, last year she was our leading scorer and this year came in as our third scorer. Well miss her up at the top.
Kassandra Riozzi, midfielder:
Well really miss Kassandra Riozzis leadership. She really brought a lot of good intensity and focus to every practice. She would provide a model for how to prepare for games.
Rebecca Muscatell, midfielder:
Rebecca Muscatell, shes always had a fun energy she brings to our team. Its something that a lot of the other players can learn from.
Nicolette Runyan:
Nicci Runyan, shes a really fast player on the outside. She represents our speed on the team. Shes done a great job off the field, nurturing some of the younger teammates and making them feel part of the team and dealing with some issues outside of the game a little bit.
