Local softball team gives back
The Stilly Valley Crusaders U14 and U12 softball players learn more about life than just good sportsmanship.
When the girls aren’t building on the success of their Little League season — many of these girls are from the Marysville, Arlington and Lakewood school districts and played for the Stilly Valley all-star teams that won the state tournament in recent years — they give back to the community through several different projects.
Last October, the girls unloaded crates of pumpkins, placing them in fields to support and publicize the Marysville Rotary Pumpkins for Literacy program. In December, they joined Santa and Arlington firefighters as they walked through Arlington collecting food and donations to support the community food bank.
Now, this month, the girls are volunteering at Kids Kloset to help the used clothing store move and update their inventory to get ready for spring.
The U14 and U12 teams are coached by Jim Barrio and Steve McDonald.
Gracious hosts at Grace Academy
The Snohomish County Basketball Officials Association named Grace Academy its host school of the year.
In a press release, the organization praised the school’s hospitality, for welcoming officials with a smile and an offer to do whatever the guests need.
“They really focus on making the atmosphere the best they can and we appreciate that a great deal to be taken care of as well as we are at Grace Academy,” Mark Myers said in the statement.
Sultan’s Jordan Nicholes was named player of the year by the organization and Mountlake Terrace coach Nalin Sood earned the coaching award.
Boys and Girls Club registering volleyball players
The Arlington Boys and Girls Club is offering coed volleyball for first- through 12th-graders.
Registration runs through through March 13 the Arlington Boys and Girls Club. Cost is $70 plus a current membership. Teams practice two nights a week with the majority of games on Saturdays. Marysville city soccer seeks coaches
Marysville Parks and Recreation is seeking volunteer coaches for the youth soccer league and the upcoming season.
According to athletic coordinator Dave Hall, the program focuses upon developing fundamentals, teamwork, and good sportsmanship in a recreation league environment.
Practices begin the week of April 6 .
Volunteer packets are available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Marysville Parks and Recreation office, located at Jennings Memorial Park.
