MARYSVILLE – The Marysville-Pilchuck girls basketball team hadn’t won a game in two years.
But it won its third game of the season Thursday night, beating Granite Falls 57-34.
Mariah Summers has been a key player in the turnaround, and she was again against the Tigers scoring 30 points.
The first half was a little too close for comfort as they Tommies led just 10-9 after one quarter and 27-21 at halftime. But in the second half, M-P exploded for 30 points, compared with 13 for the visitors. Lauren Lewis added 14 points for the Tomahawks. Alex Grimm added 7, and scoring 2 apiece were MacKenzie Konsor, Madyson Baxter and Georgia Bradley.
Boys wrestling
M-P’s boys wrestling team bested O’Dea 54-27 Friday at O’Dea.
Winning by pin for the Tommies were: at 195 pounds Cayden White in 21 seconds; at 132 pounds Austin Davis in 40 seconds; at 138 pounds Nick Cantu in 50 seconds; at 145 pounds Isaiah Woods in 1 minute and 1 second; at 160 pounds Ahmad Humond in 1:25; at 285 pounds Jeff Roullier in 2:36; and at 152 pounds Isaiah Galindo in 4:37.
Mauro Begar, at 170 pounds, and Jake Elwood, at 182, won by forfeit. M-P lost three matches by forfeit, and Tanner Lauzon lost 9-8 at 126 pounds.
Boys basketball
The M-P boys played in the Mountlake Terrace Holiday Tournament Friday and Saturday. The first night they beat Sedro-Woolley 69-66. The second day they beat Lakeside 56-48.
