As the district and state tournaments approach, it’s becoming clear that a number of races might come down to the final tenth of a second.

Some of Marysville-Pilchuck’s races in the District 1 boys meet might be photo finishes, such as all the relays, the 50-yard free and 100-yard backstroke in the finals.

Any wrestlers making the top eight at districts and the top four at regionals will earn it. Facing the top competition in the state before actually making state isn’t easy, but it’s business as usual for Western Conference grapplers.

Despite having one of the best records around, the lady Tomahawks haven’t beaten a team in the Wesco South. Granted, they’ve only played Jackson, but Edmonds-Woodway is the team to beat and there are plenty of quality teams vying for one of District 1’s four state berths.

The same goes for the Lakewood boys hoops squad, which is likely to play in the district tourney, but could go anywhere from second to fifth in the Cascade Conference 2A standings.
