After a week of tennis, the Tomahawk boys worked out some jitters and finished the week 2-1.

Although the boys dropped their opening competition against Lake Stevens Sept. 8, they rallied to defeat Arlington and Stanwood by 4-3 each.

“We could have been 3-0 pretty easily I think, but we had a lot of nerves in the first match,” said coach Robert Sherry. “Same for both teams though. That said, we easily could be 0-3 as our two wins were 4-3 and decided in close matches where we had to come from behind.”

First and second singles players Corey Coombs and Shane Price matched the team’s record on the week, also going 2-1 with losses against Lake Stevens. In doubles competition, senior Lucas Stevens won all three of his matches, paired twice with Andrew VanderStoep and once with Jerad Rumsey.

Both M-P wins came down to a doubles team. Against Arlington, C.J. Nearman and Jake Hereth held off three match points in the second set to win it and picked up their match in three sets. Against Stanwood, Sam Josephson and Jared Randall came back from a loss in the first set to win the second and bounce back from an early deficit to win the third set and the match.
