MARYSVILLE — The Lady Tomahawks got off to a fast start this season, but have since run into trouble.

With two wins to start the year, followed up by two losses, M-P found a rare occasion to finish a match, March 12, and responded with a 5-2 result against Arlington.

“We played pretty well today,” said coach Nathan McClellan. “It was nice to be able to get one in — it seems like we’re either in the gym or at a match.”

With two conference matches still pending, M-P has a record of 3-4, but those two matches are 3-3 and down to the deciding matchup.

Against the Eagles, however, the Tommies earned a quick victory, taking a 5-1 lead in the first five matchups, starting with No. 1 singles. M-P’s Sarah Tuemmler defeated Toria Morcom, 6-3, 6-2.

“Sarah has been as solid as we could ask of her this season,” said McClellan.

In the No. 3 singles match, RaeAnn Bobadilla defeated Kela King, 6-4, 6-2 and the No. 4 singles match saw Alicia Brown outlast Kela King, 6-4, 6-3.

“Alicia’s had a couple of matches that were very close and it was nice to see her finish this one out,” said McClellan.

In doubles, M-P’s top tandem of Jessica Carey and Katie Peterson made quick work of their Arlington counterparts, Chelcie Nielsen and Claire Gastineav, 6-0, 6-4.

“Those two have played extremely well so far this season,” said McClellan. “I think that they’ve realized that it’s their senior season and they want to go as far as they can.”

Marysville-Pilchuck also got a win from No. 3 doubles Savaddy Lee and Samantha Wallace, who defeated Kami Tomyn and Alyssa Goodey, 6-2, 6-4.

McClellan praised his doubles teams play this year as being integral in their team wins.

“They’re a pretty solid group,” he said. “We’ve moved some girls around in there to find the right fits, and they’ve played well.”

The Tommies will travel to Jackson April 20 at 3:30 p.m.
